Brighton's Own Free Fringe
Brighton's Own Free Fringe
BOFF! is debuting this May! We're the brand new, free alternative to the mainstream Brighton Fringe, hoping to make the fringe season more open, affordable and freely artistic.
BOFF! follows the model of the PBH Free Fringe, one of the largest producers of shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It’s free for performers and free for audiences operating on a first come, first served basis. This makes it more accessible, more authentic and most importantly more Brighton.
For our debut year BOFF! is starting at The Black Dove, an independent free house in the heart of Kemptown. Presenting two shows a day for the whole month of May, starting at 5 and 6pm. If you're looking to attend a show, check out our program and get in touch with any questions.
All BOFF! shows are free and unitcketed, meaning on the day, all you'll need to do is turn up, walk in and sit down, at the end of each show performers may opt to take donations, of which they keep 100%.
BOFF! is a non-profit organisation, it's run by artists-for artists with the sole goal of providing more opportunities. As a performer with BOFF! you automatically become a volunteer meaning you're expected to help out whenever you're able to. Usually this means taking responsibility for the pack up and pack down of the venue, and promoting the festival as a whole alongside your individual show.
It's important to emphasise that BOFF! is completely independent of the Brighton Fringe- we just happen to run the same time of year by complete coincidence...
BOFF! has been sparked by a group of young artists who were looking to bring shows to the Brighton Fringe themselves. After a solid and enjoyable run at the PBH Free Fringe in Edinburgh they questioned why such a successful model isn't implemented elsewhere.
